Halassia mou

Halassia mou is a dirge from Epirus, Greece that people sing, accompanied by clarinet, in my village, Kastaniani, during the feast of The Dormition of the Mother of God on August, 15. There, as far as I can remember myself, dozens of bodies get together in the village square to dance in a slow pace, holding hands and forming a spiral, till dawn. It was the favourite song of grandma Tzouti that she would always sing to us around that day in the yard of our house in Kastaniani; she wore black thick socks, just under the knee, on her always straight legs.
